David Goldberg
I am a Junior in the Emory College of Arts and Sciences majoring in Biology. As a student researcher in the EcLF laboratory for the past couple of years, I have studied the pharmacodynamics of bacteriostatic antibiotics that act on ribosomes of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, primarily the macrolides, azithromycin and erythromycin, and chloramphenicol. In addition to Dr. Levin, this project is in collaboration with Dr. Fernando Baquero from the Ramon Cajal hospital in Madrid and Ingrid McCall. In addition to this experimental study, I am doing a theoretical research project in collaboration with Joshua Manuel and Dr. Levin. Using mathematical and computer simulation models, we are studying the joint action of the patient's innate immune system (primarily phagocytes leucocytes ), antibiotics and bacteriophage to the course of treatment of bacterial infections.
